Arrests Made for Demolishing Dalit Family’s House

Three individuals were arrested on July 27 on the accusation of trespassing and demolishing a house belonging to Putke Okheda from Dhami Village, Syaldhunga, Ward No. 7, Biththadachir Rural Municipality.

According to DSP Jagdishwar Bhandari, Bajhang District Police Office arrested Bhawani Joshi, Krishna Joshi, and Nandalal Joshi from Dhami Village, Ward No. 7, Biththadachir Rural Municipality, on charges of trespassing and vandalizing the home of Putke Okheda, claiming that the Dalits were not allowed to build houses in Joshibasti. They were also accused of causing damage to the property and cutting off the crops.

According to DSP Bhandari, the accused individuals have been arrested based on the victim’s complaint, and they are currently under investigation for their alleged indecent behaviour.

According to the victim, a group of around 30 to 32 individuals, made derogatory remarks based on caste while trespassing into a Dalit settlement and vandalized homes, including cutting crops in the fields, claiming that Dalits were not allowed to build houses in their vicinity.

On July 26, the accused attacked and vandalized the house under construction belonging to the victim, Putke Okheda. The victim’s family is now seeking justice and has gone to the district headquarters, Chainpur, to pursue legal action.
