On July 19, the police arrested 27-year-old Chandan Rajvanshi of Haldibari Rural Municipality-4 in Jhapa on charges of misconduct towards a 24-year-old woman through social media.
The victim filed a complaint on July 17 at the Cyber Bureau of Police Headquarters in Bhotahiti, stating that the accused had established a close friendship with her on various social media platforms, including Facebook and TikTok. He allegedly uploaded photos and secret videos of the victim on different social platforms and sent them to her relatives, which resulted in character assassination.
Based on the victim’s complaint, the police arrested the accused from Kathmandu on July 19, with the assistance of the District Police Office. DSP Pashupati Kumar Rai, the spokesperson of Nepal Police’s Cyber Bureau, Bhotahiti, confirmed the arrest and mentioned that the bureau had obtained a five-day extension from the district court on July 19 to further detain the accused for investigation purposes.
