Ward Chairperson and Chairperson of Rural Municipality Accused of Assault and Beating

37-year-old Raju, also known as Kiran Kumar Jaiswal, a candidate for the Chairperson position in Rupani Municipality-1, advocating for a ‘Corruption and Drug-free Rupani Rural Municipality’, has reported being assaulted by Pitambar Yadav, the Ward Chairperson, and Ram Yadav, the driver, in front of the Rural Municipality’s office. Jaiswal alleges that the attack was carried out under the instructions of Dinesh Kumar Yadav, the 48-year-old Chairperson of the rural municipality, on July 9.

Jaiswal claims that when he visited the village office to avail a service, he was attacked by the accused individuals as directed by Yadav. Jaiswal states that Chairperson Yadav grabbed his shirt collar, while the driver, Ram Yadav, held him from behind, and Pitambar assaulted him physically.

Jaiswal had gone to the Rural Municipality office to meet with Gangaram Yadav, the Ward Chairperson of ward number 5. According to Jaiswal, Chairperson Yadav scolded him for filing a petition against them, and alleged defamation on social media. Jaiswal asserts that Chairperson Yadav immediately called the Ward Chairperson, instructing him to subject Jaiswal to physical assault.

On the night of July 8, Jaiswal had expressed his opinion on Facebook regarding the government vehicle with registration number 1 Jh 518, which had been involved in an accident.

Jaiswal reported that Chairperson Yadav confiscated his mobile phone during the assault. Furthermore, he states that several other ward chairpersons were present as witnesses to the incident.

Chairperson Yadav denies physically assaulting Jaiswal, claiming that there was only an argument and disagreement. Saptari SP Narendra Kumar Karki has stated that an investigation is underway regarding the incident.
