On July 2, Om Prasad Yadav, a 29-year-old resident of the village, was arrested by the police on charges of inciting the suicide of 24-year-old Maneka Yadav from Economic Gaidhwa Rural Municipality-5, Sihwa.
The tragic incident occurred on May 5 , when Maneka Yadav was found deceased in her own residence. Following the incident, the accused, Yadav, notified the Local Police Office in Lumbini, claiming that his wife had taken her own life. A postmortem examination of the body was subsequently conducted on May 6 at Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa.
Subhas Chandra Yadav, the 37-year-old brother of the deceased from Nawalparasi District, Sunwal Napa-2, filed a complaint at the Local Police Office on July 1. The complaint alleged that the accused repeatedly subjected his sister to physical abuse and torture in connection with dowry demands, ultimately compelling her to commit suicide. The complaint specifically accused the accused of abetment of suicide.
Inspector Gajendra Rawal from the Area Police Office in Lumbini confirmed that a complaint had been received concerning the alleged suicide prompted by dowry-related beatings and torture. Subsequently, the accused was arrested under the charge of abetment of suicide, and an investigation into the matter was initiated.
