The Government of Koshi province started negotiations with the Joint Struggle Committee For the Renaming of Province, on June 19, 2023.
The spokesperson of the Koshi Province, Bhakti Prasad Sitaula, issued a press release on May 27, 2023, and called upon the protesting parties for a negotiation, the official interaction started on June 19, at Wig Hotel in the provincial capital, Biratnagar.
Govind Angbung, Yuvraj Rai, Rambhakta Kurumbang, Lakpa Sherpa, Gelje Sherpa, Kumar Lingden, Ramesh Rai, Krishna Chongbang, Prem Mivak, and Padam Zavegu participated in the interaction.
Tilkumar Meyangbo, Minister of Industry, Agriculture and Cooperatives and Infrastructure, Bhakti Prasad Sitaula, and Minister of Social Development, Buddhikumar Rajbhandari represented the Koshi Province Government, under the coordination of Minister of Irrigation, Drinking Water and Health.
The protestors are protesting based on their identity after the name of Province 1 was officially changed to Koshi Province on March 1, 2023, by two-thirds of the provincial assembly.
The protestors demand that the name Koshi should be canceled and given the name Limbuwan or Kirant based on identity.
