INSEC organized a discussion session on the recommendations received by Nepal in the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and the process of UPR with the members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly on June 16.
In a discussion organized by INSEC in Kathmandu in collaboration with UPR Info, a Member of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Legislation Committee, Jayanthi Rai, said the government and all stakeholders should work together in favor of human rights.
He said that the task of guaranteeing human rights belongs to the government, but the task of making human rights-friendly laws belongs to parliamentarians, and citizens are responsible for the law.
Nargiz Arupova, senior program manager of UPR Info, stated that various meaningful activities were conducted in collaboration with INSEC, a network of civil organizations. She mentioned that parliamentarians should be informed about the process of UPR.
Chairperson of INSEC, Dr. Kundan Aryal, there are plenty of laws in Nepal, but the implementation is far behind.
In the program, MP Suresh Alemgar said that all the agencies involved in improving the UPR process and human rights should work responsibly.
