The Supreme Court upheld the life sentence of Reshamlal Chaudhary. The District Court Kailali and The High Court Dipayal sentenced him to life imprisonment for his involvement in the Tikapur massacre.
Chaudary had filed an appeal against the decision against the verdict of the District Court Kailali and the High Court Dipayal at the Supreme Court, on February 24, 2021. The joint bench of Justices Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Nahkul Subedi upheld the imprisonment previously given by the District Court Kailali and the High Court Dipayal.
Similarly, the joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Bhattarai and Subedi has overturned the verdict of life imprisonment in the case of Lakshman Tharu Chaudhary, who was sentenced to life imprisonment by the judgment of the District and High Courts and sentenced him to three years imprisonment for attempted murder.
Supreme Court acquitted Sitaram Chaudhary and Gangaram Chaudhary. The Dipayal High Court had sentenced them to life imprisonment.
A single bench of Kailali District Court Judge, Parasuram Bhattarai, sentenced Resham Lal Chaudhary to life imprisonment for his involvement in the killing of SSP Laxman Neupane of Nepal Police, eight police officers, and a child, that took place during the Tharuhat agitation on August 24, 2015, in Tikapur.
After the Kailali District Court pronounced the verdict of life imprisonment, on February 24, 2019. Chowdhury appealed to the High Court, Dipayal, requesting an overturn of the order. The Joint Bench of High Court Dipayal Justice Teknarayan Kuvan and Sitaram Mandal, on December 17, 2020, upheld the order of District Court Kailali.
Resham Lal Chaudhary appealed to the Supreme Court on February 24, 2022, demanding to annul the High Court Dipayal’s order.
Resham Choudhary, elected member of the House of Representatives in 2018 of the Rashtriya Janata Party, and 26 other individuals were accused of being involved in the incident. A case of intentional homicide attempted murder, and robbery was filed against them.
