Students of Tribhuwan Janata Secondary School in Bangad Kupinde Municipality are compelled to attend the annual examination in the playground due to the lack of classrooms.
Binod KC, a student of Grade 9, said that students are compelled to sit for the annual examination in the playground as there is no classroom for students.
The school doesn’t have many classrooms, therefore, there isn’t enough space for the students to study. The students were compelled to give their exam under the scorching sun. According to Lalita Bista, a student, due to the heat of the summer, they are not able to concentrate in the exam.
She further said that many students studying in this school are compelled to study in the open space under the scorching sun. According to him, there are 210 students in Grade 9. ‘There is not space to keep everyone in the same room so why we study in the open field, she further said.
Basanta Parajuli, teacher of the school said that the examination was conducted in the playground as it was difficult to fit all the students in the classroom due to lack of classrooms and large number of students.
“There aren’t sufficient classrooms in the school. We conduct the class in a huddle but we cannot conduct examinations in the same way so we kept the students in the playground for their examination,’ he added.
According to the school principal Guman Singh Bist, there is a shortage of teachers to run the classes and there is also a problem in conducting classes by keeping them all together.

He said that he has been teaching Grade 11 and 12 on the roof of the school building due to lack of classrooms.
He said that student count increased after the school started teaching in English medium at the primary level.
The school has stated that it has not been able to operate a laboratory for horticulture on the technical curriculum due to lack of building in the school.
According to Principal Bista, the lack of classrooms has created a lot of challenges in the management of the laboratory and practical education.
Tilaram Budha, Chairperson of the school management committee, alleges that no one has taken initiative to solve the problem even though everyone is aware of the problem. He said that the school has not been able to facilitate the students’ education by constructing its own building due to the lack of financial resources of the school.
