Validation Workshop for UPR Action Strategies

On March 30, 2022, Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) organized a workshop on the validation of the UPR Action Strategies for the implementation of the recommendations received from the Universal Periodic Review.

The workshop organized by INSEC discussed issues related to child rights, trafficking, immigration, gender-based discrimination, issues of the minority, caste-based discrimination, transitional justice, gender and sexual minorities and economic, social and cultural rights.

The participants of the workshop emphasized on the importance of advocacy by civil society organizations to make the government more accountable and responsible for the implementation of the recommendations made by the member states.

Chairperson of INSEC, Dr. Indira Shrestha said that the people affiliated with the civil society should take the advocacy forward for the implementation of the recommendations.

She said, ‘After we are committed to advocacy and reach out to the masses, the government and policymakers will be swift to implement the recommendations.”

Speaking on the occasion, Bhakta Bishwakarma, Acting Chairperson of the Dalit NGO Organization Federation said that success could be achieved only after everyone advocates for each-others’ rights.

He further said, “The issues of the Dalit should not be seen as Dalit issues only but as issues of all. Such questions belong to the whole country. Therefore, such issues should be addressed accordingly.’

Chairperson of the Children as Zones of Peace National Campaign (CZOP), Rajesh Sharma, said that the recommendations received in the field of children should be carefully studied and implemented in partnership with the concerned authorities.
