Police have arrested Santosh Sah of Adarsha Kotwal Rural Municipality-8 on January 16 on the charge of killing nine-year-old Roopmala Kumari of Adarsha Kotwal Rural Municipality-7. The victim was killed after rape on January 9.
The police have also arrested Shanti Devi Kanu, 40, mother of the accused for being involved in the incident.
Roopmala had been missing from the after of January 9. She had gone to graze the cattle. The victim’s father had filed a complaint at the District Police Office on January 10.
The dead body of the victim was found at Jamuni Khola, a nearby stream of the same locality. According to the initial investigation of the incident, the deceased was strangled and attacked on head after rape, says DSP Rajesh Thapa.
According to the eye witnesses, Roopmala had gone to drink water in the accused’s poultry farm and did not return from there.
The police had accused Santosh of raping and killing Roopmala whereas Santosh’s mother has been charged of assisting him while hiding evidences of killing.
Post-mortem of the victim was conducted at Kalaiya Hospital on January 12 after which the family of the victim received the body and completed its final rites.
