Clash between Police and Protestors in Sarlahi, Eleven Injured

In a clash between the police and the protestors, 11 were injured in Sarlahi. Locals of the area had started the protest after Rajkumar Mahato, 30 of Ishwarpur Municipality-5 was killed by the patrolling van of Area Police Office Ishwarpur Municipality-9 Keshargunj on the night of December 25.

The police van (Naa 1 Jha 869) had hit the motorbike (Naa 43 Pa 5018) of Rajkumar Mahato while it was patrolling from Ishwarpur’s Market to Mohanpur. The incident had occurred at Ishwar Municipality-7 near the southern side of the municipality office while the motorbike was coming from the opposite direction.

The police have been accused of conspiring the incident. During the clash, Police had opened fire to control the mob after which Sanjay Kumar Mahato, 15, nephew of the deceased sustained injury in his left leg.

Digambar Mahato, 33, of Chandranagar Rural Municipality-2 was also injured by the firing. According to Kishori Mahato, uncle of the deceased, both the injured were taken to Ishwarpur Health Post for treatment.

According to the police, DSP Madhav Prasad Budhathoki of District Police Office, Malangwa has sustained injuries in the abdomen and his left arm was broken, Inspector Krishna Giri’s left leg was broken, DSP of the Area Police Office Barahathawa Umashakar Yadav’s abdomen and chest were wounded and his left hand was broken.

Likewise, according to Inspector Janak Raj Dhungana, Inspector Ved Bahadur of Area Police Office Haripur has injured his left knee, policemen Mukesh Giri has injured finger of his left hand, Shyamanandan Yadav has injured his left leg, Ram Kewal Prasad Patel of District Police Office has injured his right hand, DSP Dipendra Thapa of Armed Police Force Sarlahi has injured his right leg and police constable Dipendra Mahara sustained injuries in his right hand and left eye.

Inspector Dhungana told INSEC that the injured ones were taken to District Hospital for further treatment.

Chief District Officer Sthaneshwar Gautam said that prohibitory order was issued in the market area of Ishwarpur from 3 pm on December 28 to 7 pm on December 29 after the locals protested aggressively against the incident.

The body of the deceased has been kept at the district hospital for post-mortem said the police.
