Regular classes of the students of Krishna Basic School of Bagchaur in Sharada Municipality-9 have been affected by the winter.
Mohan Kunwar, a student of Grade 4 complained that the classes do not have windows, desks, and benches.
He said for, they are compelled to sit on a thin carpet during winter and attend the classes. He further added, ‘teachers tell us to sit inside the classroom whereas our concentration is diverted by the sunlight outside. We feel like basking in the sun.’ Academics of around 200 students till Grade eight have been affected.
The school has five buildings among which four are in a critical condition. According to the school administration, the building constructed last year by the Education Office is only in a proper condition. Cheen Bahadur Budhathoki, Acting Principal of the school, said that the office management could not manage the accommodation of the students as other buildings were in a critical condition.
‘The school was established in 2037 BS and there aren’t enough benches and desks because of which we are compelled to run the classes of Grade 4 and 5 keeping the students on a carpet. We even do not have proper environment to take the classes in the premises of the school’, added Budhathoki.
Teachers have complained that when there is no fence in the school premises, people are moving around openly and even cattle enter the school premises.

The school administration has complained that the ward office and the municipality have not shown any interest in demanding structural reforms in the school. There are three teachers appointed in the school, one in relief and the rest from private sources.
Mayor of Sarada Municipality Suresh Adhikari said that the work could not be carried out as the management committee was not active even though NPR 400,000 was allocated for the restoration of the building.
After receiving information about the condition of the school, required amount was allocated and instructions were given to start the work immediately, said the Mayor Adhikari.
