Budget of Gandaki: Prioritized Health Sector and COVID-19

The Gandaki Province Government will provide relief of NRs 50,000 to the families of those who died due to COVID-19.

Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel made the announcement while presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2021/22 on June 15, 2021.

Similarly, Chief Minister Pokharel has declared to provide Rs 5,000 as a monthly allowance to the children whose parents died due to COVID-19.

Pokharel was appointed as the chief minister on June 12 and within three days, he brought the budget of the province.

Due to the need to present the budget in a short time, the provincial government has allocated funds for only a few programs except the ongoing ones from the previous year. The other amount will be given to the ministry in a lump sum.

The rescue program for pregnant and breastfeeding women and newborns in critical condition in remote areas has been continued.

“I have allocated the necessary budget for the purchase of vaccine to ensure vaccination against COVID-19 to all the citizens of the province,” said Chief Minister Pokhrel.

NRs. 16 million has been allocated for the partnership with the Government of Nepal and local level to continue the multi-sectoral nutrition improvement program to improve the nutritional status of infants, children, adolescents, persons with disabilities and pregnant women.

Chief Minister Pokhrel has presented a budget of NRs 30.39 billion for the coming year. From this year’s budget, 43.5 percent has been allocated for current expenditure, 55.7 percent for capital expenditure, and 0.8 percent has been allocated for financial management.

In the previous fiscal year, a budget of NRs. 34.84 billion was presented.

Similarly, NRs. 4 billion 184.3 million has been received for the conditional grant, NRs. 549 million has been received for special grant and NRs. 873.6 million has been received a supplementary grant.

A budget of NRs. 1.10 billion has been allocated for financial equalization grant for the local level.

Similarly, the provincial government has allocated Rs. 10 million to each local level for the partnership of province and locality.

The budget of the province has descended from the previous year due to the decline in the internal revenue of the province and the grant from the federation.

Gandaki has received Rs. 7.42 billion in equalization grant from the central government.
