Policies and Programs of Province 1: Health Sector Prioritized

The province 1 government is going to implement the ‘Digital Health, Digital Province’ program to ensure simple and easy access of all the people of province 1 to the vaccine against COVID-19.

The provincial government has given priority to the health sector by presenting the annual policy and program for the coming fiscal year 2021/22.

In coordination and cooperation with the local levels, the provincial government has presented the program to make arrangements for online registration in district hospitals and local level’s hospitals and health centres.

It is mentioned in the policy and program that wards will be made efficient for the villages and toles which are not digitally literate.

The concept of the digital province has been included in the policy and program of the government to speed up the implementation in the field of health by developing a system towards keeping electronic health records, telemedicine counselling and providing services.

Presenting the annual policy and program for the fiscal year 2021/22 in the provincial assembly on June 10, Province Chief Somnath Adhikari said that the government has planned the policy and program by giving priority to the right to health.

Arrangements will be made to mobilize all the resources in coordination and cooperation with the federal government for the smooth supply and distribution management of health items including medicines and oxygen.

The government’s policy and program state that additional services will be provided to boost the morale of the health workers and security personnel involved in the response to COVID-19.

It is mentioned in the government’s program that an oxygen plant and intensive care unit will be constructed by preparing a master plan for all the hospitals in the province with the slogan ‘Quality Health Care is the Commitment of the Province Government’.

Mechi Hospital will be upgraded to 200 beds, Dhankuta and Panchthar District Hospitals to 100 beds and other district hospitals to a minimum of 50 beds with specialist doctors and health workers, necessary tools and equipment and physical infrastructure.

It is mentioned in the policy and program that effective services will be provided by upgrading Madan Bhandari Hospital and Trauma Centre Urlabari.

The hospitals located in the major places of the province will be expanded and developed as referral hospitals.

The government has the policy to start telemedicine service through district hospitals and referral hospitals.

It is mentioned in the policy and program presented by the Province chief that the overall health care system will be restructured and arrangements for monitoring and evaluation will be made.

The Koshi Covid-19 Hospital built and operated by the state government will be converted into a provincial obstetrics and gynaecology hospital after complete prevention and control of covid.

It is mentioned in the government’s policy and programs that the structures constructed for the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 in collaboration with the local level will be protected and regular maintenance will be provided.
