District Court of Saptari has sentenced Deepnarayan Safi also known as Dipen, 37, of Bishnupur Rural Municipality-3 to seven years of jail term for raping a 30-year-old woman.
The verdict was given on April 29, 2021, by District Judge Surya Narayan Adhikari. Along with the imprisonment, the guilty also has to pay NRs. 50,000 as compensation, informed Hem Bahadur Budhathoki, Information Officer of the court.
The victim had lodged a complaint at the District Police Office, Saptari on June 13, 2019, alleging that Safi had raped her on the night of June 10.
Police had arrested the accused on June 11 on the basis of a verbal complaint from the victim.
The victim was examined at Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Hospital in Rajbiraj on June 13.
According to the police, Safi was sent to judicial custody on September 26, 2019, on the order of the district court.
