Civil society leaders of Nepal have protested against Myanmar’s military coup.
Twelve civil society leaders have issued an appeal on March 28 urging them to speak out against the killings and violence in Myanmar.
They also expressed serious concern that the South Asian government had not shown enough interest in the killing of more than 300 civilians in Myanmar.
Civil society leaders Sushil Pyakurel, Kul Chandra Gautam, Renu Adhikari, Bipin Adhikari, Kanak Mani Dixit, Dambar Chemjong, Jay Prakash Gupta, Rameshwar Khanal, Mahesh Maskey, Arjun Karki, Rajendra Dahal and Rem Bishwakarma have called for a joint appeal for peace.
“We urge the Government of Nepal to immediately uphold democratic values and stand up for the people of Myanmar,” the appeal said. “The government must stop the current repression led by General Min Aung Ling and move forward with the outcome of the November 2020 elections.”
Civil society leaders have also pointed out the need for the UN Security Council to take strong action in Myanmar.
