Writ Filed at Supreme Court to Reinstate Parliament

Four CPN lawmakers have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the dissolution of the parliament is unconstitutional.

Dev Gurung, Chief Whip of the CPN, Parliament members Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel, Shashi Shrestha, and Ram Kumari Jhankri have filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on December 22, informed MP Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel to INSEC Online.

Pokharel said, “Our constitution does not speak about the dissolution of the parliament.” It is unconstitutional for the Prime Minister to recommend a provision that is not in the constitution and for the president to dissolve the parliament on the recommendation of the government because of which it has been asked to be abolished. ‘

The writ petition has demanded the Supreme Court to order that the dissolution of the House of Representatives by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on December 20 is unconstitutional.
