The human rights activists arrested during a peaceful protest in front of the Singha Durbar were released six hours.
Police had arrested 15 activists, including Krishna Pahadi, the founding president of the Human Rights and Peace Society, for entering the restricted area of the Singha Durbar premises around 11 a.m. on December 20 to protest after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved parliament and set a date for mid-term elections.
Among those arrested by the police are Krishna Kandel, founding president of Shanti Samaj, Pahadi, former general secretary Kumar Raj Subedi, secretary Bal Bahadur Gaha Magar, Kathmandu branch chairperson Jagannath Pudasaini, Lalitpur branch chairperson Chandramani Banjara, activists Amrit Jung Mahat, Ishwar Pudasaini, Maya Bhattarai, Mahesh Acharya and Bachuram Sharma, Vikash Thapa, Kiran Dhakal, Chiranjeevi Khadka, and Tulsiram Bhandari, said Uttam Pudasaini, president of the Peace Society.
They were carrying placards saying, “Dissolution of parliament is the biggest mockery of democracy.”
