Women’s rights activist Bandana Rana has been re-elected as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has informed that she has been elected as a member of (CEDAW) for the second time.

Rana was re-elected after receiving votes from 137 countries in the election held under the 21st meeting of the committee on November 9 in New York.
Out of the 179 countries that have ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), 137 countries have voted in the favor of Rana.
Out of 19 candidates, Rana came third in the list of highest votes. Rana is one of the 11 candidates to be elected for the term of 2021-2024.
Along with Nepal’s Rana, experts from the Netherlands, Bahamas, Lithuania, Ghana, Australia, Mexico, Lebanon, France, the Philippines, and China have also been elected.
Earlier, she was elected in 2016 for a term of 2017-2020.
