Patients Face Problem Due to Road Blockage

The road at Rupse Jharna in Dana of Annapurna rural municipality-3, which was blocked after heavy floods and landslides on July 20, has been blocked again since September 15.

Chandra Mohan Gauchan, the Gandaki provincial assembly member from Mustang, says, “Patients in Mustang have to walk about 10 kilometres from Ghoptebhir in Mustang on a stretcher. It is very difficult to cross the off-road with the patients, who cannot even walk alone.”

Even though the road under Kaligandaki corridor is being repaired, it will take another week to come into operation, informed Narendra Neupane, project manager of Sharma Gajurmuki.

According to manager Neupane, the Rupse River has flooded the bridge along with the base in Annapurna rural municipality-3 of Myagdi. Similarly, a 30-meter road in Kavre of the same ward has been completely washed away by the landslide.

Neupane says, “Attempts are being made to clear the rocky hill in Ghoptebhir by blasting it as there is no breaker.”

Similarly, a 60-meter road in Thasang rural municipality-4 Kaiku of Mustang and a 30-meter road in Thasang’s Ward No. 3 Misi along with the base have been flooded.

Mustang, which now has the only alternative to air transport due to the loss of direct communication, has been suffering a lot due to lack of air travel.

Farmers who used to earn income by selling vegetables and fruits including potatoes when the road was opened are now unable to sell apples.
