Complaint of Rape Filed Against Rural Municipality’s Chairperson

A complaint has been filed against Govinda Bahadur Khadka (45), chairperson of Likhutama Koshi Rural Municipality at the District Police Office in accusation of raping a 31-year-old woman.

The victim alleged that Khadka raped her nine months ago out of fear, intimidation and temptation. According to Tekendra Poudel, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Ramechhap, and the victim has lodged a complaint against Khadka on August 23, 2020.

Health checkup of the victim was conducted on August 23 at the Primary Health Centre, Manthali.

Earlier, Khadka was arrested in accusation of keeping hostage on August 14 and a complaint of fraud was also registered against him on August 23. Khadka was accused of forcing chairperson of a consumer committee to sign a blank cheque.

There is also an allegation that a local old man agreed to sell 21 ropanis of land to the rural municipality worth 20 million but Khadka registered the land in the name of his sister-in-law and did not pay any money.

Police said that all the three cases against the chairperson would be investigated simultaneously. The court has already allowed the police to hold Khadka in custody from July 30 for 17 days on the charge of hostage-taking.
