Government’s Priority to provide justice and reparation to the conflict victims: Foreign Minister Gyawali

The foreign minister Pradeep Gyawali said that the government’s priority is to provide justice and reparation to the conflict victims.

While speaking at the inauguration program on “Enforced disappearance in asia: existing law, challenges and way forward” organized jointly by INSEC and Advocacy Forum , minister Gyawali said that government is always giving priority for the conflict victims in a situation where the nation is heading towards peace after coming out from the decade long conflict.

He assured that the victims will get relief through justice and reparation, especially in a grave incident of human rights violation.

He added that the constitution of Nepal is promulgated with the participation from representatives from various countries that gone through similar kind of conflict in past.

He also said that Nepal is in right path of human rights as torture is restricted in the country. He stressed that the commissions formed to investigate the incidents of human rights violation during the armed conflict will play a vital role.

He also said that the country is heading towards prosperity through a stable government and issue of transitional justice will be concluded.

Speaking at the program, INSEC chairperson Dr Indira Shrestha the act of enforced disappearance is prevailing from the last six decades and it is against the Dhili Agreement.

She raised concern on Nepal government not signing regarding the enforced disappearance and demanded to the sign the treaty. She also raised concern saying that government could not do a substantial work regarding the issue of enforced people since the last 12 years.

Chairperson Mandira Sharma of Advocacy Forum Nepal said that the government must show a result-oriented work on disappearance people.

Vice chair Renal Huge of United Nations Federal Committee on Enforced Disappearance said that this convention is the result from the 40 years struggle and support from Human rights activists .
