INSEC’s 24th General Assembly Held Today

Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has conducted its 24th General Assembly in Kathmandu on October 8, 2021.

Dr. Indira Shrestha, Chairperson of INSEC addressed the assembly and said that the context of the COVID-19 brought challenges in the campaign of protection and promotion of human rights last year. She further highlighted that INSEC has prepared itself for responding to the need in cases of human rights violations during and after the prohibitory orders issued by the government to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 infection. In addition, she also expressed her gratitude to all the stakeholders for their continued partnership and support in the campaign of protection and promotion of human rights.

INSEC’s founder Chairperson, Sushil Pyakurel suggested INSEC to review its programs and plans on the contemporary issues of human rights to scale up the campaign for delivering effective results which will enhance the visibility of INSEC.

Erstwhile Chairperson of INSEC, Subodh Raj Pyakurel, said that the human rights activists should engage with the government and law enforcement agencies should facilitate some of the emerging issues of human rights such as migrant labours’ issue. Adding to it he further said, because of the COVID-19 infection, mitigation strategies applied by the government have created hurdles in their rights.

The Assembly unanimously passed the Annual progress reports of the fiscal year 2020/2021 presented by INSEC’s Secretary-General Rudra Bahadur Charmakar and the Annual financial report presented by Treasurer Geeta Baral respectively.

INSEC’s General Assembly has also passed a resolution on different contemporary issues. It says the government’s attention should be focused on the peace process, civic dialogue should be emphasized, the government should ensure accountability on responding in COVID-19 risk management, and consumer rights should be prioritized. Furthermore, the Assembly also urged the international community and responsible institutions to engage with the people and the state to ensure fundamental human rights in the changed political context in Myanmar and Afghanistan.
