Increasing trend in incidents of Caste based discrimination in Kalikot

It has been revealed that there is an increment in the incidents of caste-based discrimination in Kalikot in recent days. There were no incidents of Cast based discrimination reported by INSEC in previous year however, this year a total of five incidents of such discrimination including one killing was reported.

Mana Sarki, 42 , recently elected ward member of Narahari Rural Municipality-9 was killed on June 2 as a result of such discrimination. She was killed after finding that she was in a relationship with non-dalit man.

From January 2018 till December, total of five incidents of cast-based discrimination was documented by INSEC.

In major religious in Chulimalika, Badimalika, Mahabu, Lingasaini, Dalit are restricted to enter. There discrimination is as a result of conservative and ill practices prevailing in the society. Dalit are highly discriminated in the society according to Rup Singe Nepali, executive member of Khandchakra Municipality.

Coordinator Bir Tiruwa of National Dalit Wale fare Federation of Kalikot said that discrimination occurs in various ceremonies such as marriage, scared thread and Chaiti rganized by higher class Bhramin and Chetrri community.

Complaint of caste based discrimination is in increasing trend in the district however very few complaints have been lodged at police office according to acting police inspector Devendra Malla of DPO.
