Vice-spokesperson Krishna Kumari Tharu of province 5 said that gender violence is the crime against human rights and humanity.
She expressed her view during the 16 days campaign against gender violence organized jointly by INSEC, District Administration Office, District Women and Children Network including other organizations in Butwal on December 5.
She further added that there is a rise in gender violence due to the increasing unemployment and poor financial status and stressed that economic empowerment must be given priority to minimize such violence.
She said that the gender violence can be minimized by giving equal opportunities to both son and daughter without any discrimination. The discrimination prevailing in the society is another major cause of gender violence she said.
In the program, INSEC district representative Reema BC presented the work sheet on 16 days campaign against gender violence and informed the present situation of gender violence in the province.
DSP Dil Bahadur Malla of Area Police Office of Butwal said that society must be aware and honest to minimize the gender violence.
