The Inmates and detainees at Jaleshwor prison in Mahottari are becoming ill due to the over capacity of the prison followed by the winter season.
There are separate rooms for male and female detainees. At present there are 46 female and 450 male in the prison.
The district prison is graded as “B” and has a capacity to accommodate only 135 prisoners. Inmates and detainees are facing difficulties in going to toilet, sleeping, eating and even sleeping. For 46 female inmates and detainees, there is only one toilet and a tap. The prison is providing clothes and blanket to the prisoners twice a year however this year they did not get any of them. This has caused them various health issues.
At present about 125 prisoners and detainees are receiving heath checkup in a daily basis according to health professionals. Majority of prisoners are getting ill due to the lack of space.
