The constitution of Nepal has ensured the fundamental rights and responsibility in section 3 and health rights under sub-section 1 has provisioned that every citizens will get free basic health services from the state and none of them will be deprived from emergency health services. Similarly, sub-section 3 has ensured equal access of citizens to the health services.
But for the citizens of Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality-5, these provisions are like a story. Citizens of Sikdim under Sabhapokhari-5 and Phakuwa are still compelled to carry patients for six hours in stretchers by walking up to Barhabise health posts.
One may be surprised to know that even in this age, patients are carried for six hours to reach health post. But, patients in this Rural Municipality are suffering from this issue. There are about 300 people living in this Rural Municipality and they are compelled to walk for six hours just to get the Citamol tablet. Sikdim and Phakuwa are new wards after the restructuring of local level. There are no health services in these wards. Locals are completely deprived from the health services.
Former VDCs have been converted into Rural Municipality and Municipality but, the health issues are at the same level. There is a need of Health post in Sikdim and Phakuwa under Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality.
There is a lack of road network and it is compulsion for the citizen to carry patients in stretcher for a long period to reach health post said local Suresh Rai. He added ” the state is discriminating on us. It would be very easy if at least one health post is opened here. Many people have died while on the way to the hospital. Ambulance in our place ,we can’t even imagine”, he said.
