The “E” graded prison of Panchthar is facing difficulties due to the over crowded inmates and detainees. There are six times more inmates and detainees than its capacity. There are total of 141 inmates and detainees in the prison.
Jailer Surendra Mukhiya of the prison said that there has been severe management issue in the prison. Inmates and detainees are facing difficulties in eating, sleeping, cleaning, toilets etc. They are deprived of sports and its being hard to participate them in entertainment.
Similarly, there are no health workers as per the posts creating difficulties on health issues of inmates. The jail administration is compelled to send inmates to the District Hospital For treatment creating security issues. The situation of the prison has been informed to the concerned department however the issue has not been addressed yet.
