The District Prison of Gulmi is facing space problem due to the over capacity of inmates and detainees. The prison building has a capacity to accommodate only 25 inmates and detainees however there are 66 and the building is in dilapidated condition. Due to the lack of space, the inmates and detainees are facing difficulties on sleeping, eating and going to toilet. They are also facing issues on operating industry.
Inmates and detainees of the prison complained of getting the amount of rice as an allowances. They are getting 700 grams of rice for Rs 45. They also complained that their facilities have not been reviewed yet and they are getting the same facility that other inmates were getting since decade.
The prison is compelled to put male and female inmates in a same prison. There are no separate prison building for male and female. Female inmates are facing difficulties on going to the toilet as there are more male inmates in comparison.
Prison leader Deepak Khadka said that concerned authority have been informed about the difficulties however their issues are not addressed.
Acting prison chief Ram Chandra Panthi said that inmates and detainees are facing problem for treatment and drinking water as their number are increasing.
Chief Laxman Parajuli of District Coordination committee said that the issue is very serious and added that he will initiate for better service to the inmates and detainees.
