Election will be fair if Code of Conduct and Laws are followed: Chairperson Pyakurel

The CCCE secretariat INSEC chairperson Subodh Raj Pyakurel  while speaking at television dialogue program on Human Rights and election in Nepalgunj on June 1 said that the election can be clean and fair only if election code of conduct and laws were strictly followed.

Speaking at the program, Pyakurel said that the responsibility of voter’s education is not only of election commission but it is the responsibility of all political parties, civil society, media personnel and general people.

He said that rights activists over the world are wanting for social justice. He added t and stressed that democratic system, human rights and rule of law must be implemented for the social justice. While speaking in context of local level, Pyakurel said that the vice-chairman of village council and vice-mayor of the city have got a good opportunity.

The local level will not only solve the essential issues of people’s lives such as education, health and other sector but also have given opportunity to the marginalized and backward community. He added that in first phase of election 54% of Janjati have own their candidacy. He stressed on capacity building of the candidates.

Speaking at the program, CCCE co-chairman and chairperson of HURON Indra Prasad Aryal said that democracy cannot be institutionalized until there is no fair and fearless election. He added that in second phase of election, the security bodies must be very alert so that the election can be conducted in peaceful environment. He requested the election observers to play important role by not being bias.

Parliamentarian Badshah Kurmi of Nepali Congress said that the commission must give time for registration for that party who wants to participate in the election but did not registered at the election commission. Parliamentarian Dinesh Chandra Yadav of CPN UML said that the political party must take responsibility of there is   cheating in the election. He further accused that political parties in power have mostly violated the election code of conduct.

Chairman Kiran Koirala of Nepali Congress, Ashok Koirala of CPN UML, district coordinator IP Kharel of Maoist centre  including the leaders from Tharu community said that they have given the candidacy to the proper person who has owned the heart of the people.

Similarly, chairperson Nanda Lal Baisya of Trade and Commerce urged political parties not to ask for donation as it is against the code of conduct. The program was participated by a people from different walk of life.

The participants in the program stressed on expediting voters education, motivating voters to vote. They recommended the political parties to establish a good culture regarding the election.
