Police have arrested Dev Narayan Mandal, 25, of Rupani Rural Municipality on July 3, 2021, on the accusation of gang rape of a 19-year-old woman.
The arrested accused was remanded to judicial custody at Rajbiraj Prison on the same day by the bench of Judge Ishwar Mani Ojha.
Ved Prakash Mandal, 20, of Birendra Bazar in Rupani Rural Municipality-6 was arrested on May 19, 2019, for the same incident and was later sentenced to jail for seven years on December 27, 2020.
Ved Prakash is currently serving his sentence in the district jail. Previously, it was decided to postpone the case against six persons including accused Dev Narayan.
According to Ved Prakash’s statement, the other accused along with Dev Narayan were identified as Dilip Kumar Khang, 37, Sumit Mandal, 20, Bidhyananda Sardar, 20, Ananda Sardar, 28, and Omprakash Mandal, 28 of Birendra Bazar, Rupani Rural Municipality-6.
According to the victim, the accused had beaten her and gang-raped her at Terhauta Higher Secondary School in Rupani Rural Municipality-6 on May 18, 2019. The victim had come to her relative’s house to attend the exam of Grade 11.
She had filed a complaint at the District Police Office on May 19, 2019, and her health checkup was conducted on the same day.
