Gandaki Province Chief Minister Krishnachandra Nepali Pokhrel has received a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on June 18.
The Chief Minister is supported by 15 members of the Nepali Congress, 11 members of the CPN-Maoist Centre, two members each of the People Socialist Party and Rashtriya Janamorcha and by an independent member of the province assembly Rajiv Gurung.
Similarly, 27 members of the opposition Communist Party of Nepal (UML) had voted against the motion.
Announcing this in the assembly, Netranath Adhikari, Speaker of Gandaki Province, said that Chief Minister Nepali had received 31 votes in favour and 27 against the motion.
Nepali was appointed as the Chief Minister in accordance with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution on June 12 has taken a vote of confidence from the House within a month as per the constitutional provision.
Prithvi Subba Gurung, who was appointed as the Chief Minister on May 12 from the largest party in the provincial assembly, was released from his position on June 10 after failing to get a vote of confidence.
Earlier, the CPN-Maoist and CPN-UML had formed a single majority government after the Supreme Court ruled that party unification was not possible.
Chief Minister Gurung had resigned from the post of Chief Minister on May 9.
