Commission has Drawn Attention for Asking Votes during the Silence Period of Election

The Election Commission has stated that some people have issued a statement asking for votes against the code of conduct.

The commission has issued a statement on May 19, 2021, drawing attention to the issue of soliciting votes for the by-election to the National Assembly in Bagmati.

The statement issued by spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha mentioned -“Despite the commission’s request, some people have been making statements against the code of conduct, issuing press releases, publishing and broadcasting, and some media outlets have been publishing materials predicting the candidate’s victory or defeat and interviewing various people,”.

According to the election code of conduct, soliciting votes in favour of a candidate during the silence period is against the code of conduct.

The commission has stated that the activities against the code of conduct will hurt the cleanliness and credibility of the election.
