Court Declares Ten Years’ Imprisonment to Rape Accused

Manoj Kumar Mehta, 40, of Lokharam in Chhinnamasta Municipality-6 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping and cheating a 30-year-old woman.

A bench of District Judge Rita Kumari Bakharel has sentenced Mehta to seven years imprisonment and Rs 30,000 compensation for the rape, said Saptari District Court Information Officer Hem Bahadur Budhathoki.

Similarly, he was also sentenced to three years and fined Rs 30,000 for fraud. According to Budathoki, the accused has to pay Rs 195,000 as compensation for the fraud.

The victim had lodged a complaint at the District Police Office on November 30, 2018, alleging that the accused had repeatedly cheated and raped her. According to the victim, the accused had assured her to release her husband who is in detention for trial.

According to the victim, the accused had defrauded Rs. 1,045,000 from her within the span of five months and also raped her on October 5, 2018, at Ashok Lodge in Rajbiraj Municipality-4.

Police had arrested the accused on November 30, 2018, and registered separate complaints of fraud and rape.

The victim underwent a medical examination at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj on December 2, 2018.
