Discussion on the Shadow Report on Civil and Political Rights

On December 13, 2020, national consultation program has been organized in Kathmandu to discuss the shadow report prepared by Nepali Civil Society Organizations regarding the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Speaking at a program organized by INSEC, the Secretariat of the Human Rights Treaty Monitoring Coordination Center in coordination with other organizations, INSEC’s Executive Director Bijay Raj Gautam said that civic organizations should be held accountable to make the government responsible for the protection of civil and political rights.

Shreejana Pokhrel of INHURED International said that government officials should be human rights friendly while protecting legal rights. She presented a report in which further discussions were made among the attendees for gathering feedback on the report.

Samjha Shrestha, from INSEC who is also the Advocacy Manager of the secretariat of the Human Rights Treaty Monitoring Coordination Centre, said that the consultation program is organized to make the shadow report more sophisticated.
