Police arrested Rambalak Chaudhary, 45, from Kshireswornath Municipality–3, Dhanusha District, on January 5, 2026, on the charge of killing 17-year-old Avina Kuwar Baidh from Karjanha Municipality–1.
According to SP Anntaram Sharma of the District Police Office, Siraha, following the incident, the provincial and district police offices, Mirchaiya Police Station, and the Central Investigation Bureau conducted a detailed investigation and arrested the accused. During the investigation, the accused stated that he had a romantic relationship with the girl, and on December 7, 2025, he called her and took her to the bank of Kamala Canal, where, after having physical contact, he pressured her for marriage. A dispute ensued, during which he allegedly strangled Avina and hit her with a stone, killing her. After committing the murder, the accused stated that he disposed of the body near the canal, SP Sharma said.
The girl’s body was found in a decomposed and partially naked state in the bushes of the canal in Karjanha Municipality-2 on December 8. The postmortem was conducted on December 9 at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan.
INSEC and Mukt Nepal jointly conducted a site monitoring of the incident on December 11, according to Durga Pariyar, INSEC representative in Siraha.
