Two Inmates Escaped from Jhumka Jail Rearrested

Police arrested Madan Pokharel,58, and Uttam Thakuri,58, of Mechinagar Municipality-6,who escaped from the Jhumka Jail, Ramdhuni Municipality-5, during the Gen-z  protest on 9 September. Both were serving sentences in a tax fraud case and had absconded from the jail on 8 September by exploiting the situation created by the protest.

Jhumka Jail, having the capacity of 1,600 people and is designated only for male, was housing 1,799 inmates including detainees. During the protest, 1,572 inmates and detainees escaped from the jail on 9 September.

Jailer Subash Lamichhane stated that among those who escaped, 1,024 had been arrested or returned to the jail through various means by 26 November. He added that 548 escapees are still absconding.
