During the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, six escapees from Tulsipur Jail in Dang were arrested by the police.
On October 6 and 7, they were apprehended from various locations across the district and returned to Tulsipur Jail. According to DSP Chakra Bahadur Shah of the District Police Office, Dang, those arrested include Buddhi Ram Chaudhary of Rapti Rural Municipality–8, sentenced to 15 years for murder; Narayan Ghartimagar of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City–13, sentenced to 7 years for rape; Sunil Nepali of Gadhawa Rural Municipality–1, sentenced to 18 years for rape; Basant Sarki of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City–5, sentenced to 12 years for rape; Manoj Chaudhary of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City–17, sentenced to 8 years for rape; and Jiupal Damai of Kalimati Rural Municipality–7, Salyan, sentenced to 14 years for rape.
They had escaped during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9 by breaking out of the jail. DSP Shah stated that they were arrested while hiding at their homes and subsequently sent back to the jail.
According to the Tulsipur Jail Office, out of the 253 inmates who escaped by breaking out of the prison on September 8 and 9, 171 have been arrested so far, while 82 remain at large. Jailer Gir Bahadur Sejuwal of the Tulsipur Jail Office reported that among those arrested, 17 were captured from outside the district and temporarily held in the respective district prisons. He added that at present, eight of those who escaped from Tulsipur are being held in Kailali, three in Kapilvastu, one in Pyuthan, three in Rolpa, one in Bardiya, and one in Surkhet, and they will be brought back to Dang once the situation stabilizes.
