Due to her economically weak situation, Lila Kumari Shrestha, 57 of Upthah, Ward No. 1, Wanganga Municipality, who was accused of being a ‘witch’ and was burned with hot water and beaten with fire, was provided Rs. 10,000 by INSEC on Chaitra 9 to pursue legal proceedings.
INSEC Kapilvastu representative, Reema Bista, handed over the amount on March 24 in the presence of the police and the victim’s son. On March 10, Hum Kumari Jhedi, 51, of Upthah, Ward No. 1, Wanganga Municipality, and her daughter, Khagishwara Jhedi, 21, allegedly beat the victim with fire and poured hot water on her body, after which the victim filed a complaint at the Pipara Police Station on the same day.
Based on the complaint submittes by the victim, the accused were arrested from their home on March 10, and the case is being processes with an extension for further investigation, informed DSP Ripendra Kumar Singh of the District Police Office,
