An environmental rights interaction program was successfully conducted in Janaki Rural Municipality. The program was held on March 31 under the collaboration of Janaki Rural Municipality, coordinated by the Human Rights Group, and organized by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Lumbini Province Office.
During the program, INSEC focal person Laxmi Tharu highlighted that environmental problems are becoming increasingly complex due to human activities. She clarified that the program was organized to discuss this issue as the growing number of factories and small industries in Janaki Rural Municipality has directly affected the daily lives of the general public.
Deputy Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, Rampyari Yadav, emphasized that environmental rights are directly linked to human life and stressed that all stakeholders must take the matter seriously. She also mentioned that organizations such as the Human Rights Group need to advocate for policy-level interventions.

Rajendra Prasad Bajpai, Chief of the Environment and Disaster Management Branch of the Rural Municipality, informed that around 60–65 industries are operating within the municipality, contributing to increased pollution. He emphasized the need for timely monitoring, raising public awareness, and promoting behavioral change.
Mohammad Jahir Shesh, Chairperson of the Human Rights Group, emphasized that the federal, provincial, and local governments need to allocate budgets to mitigate the impacts of climate change and that the state is responsible for ensuring environmental justice.
Social Development Coordinator Ram Achal praised the efforts of ‘Sunaualo Bihani’ for contributing to cleanliness campaigns and warned that environmental crises could threaten human existence in the future. He highlighted the need to seek solutions based on risk mapping and data.
Lokendra Singh, a representative from the Khajura Khurd Police Station, noted that problems such as floods, droughts, untimely rainfall, extreme heat, water scarcity, and declining agricultural production are increasing and stressed that long-term policy measures are needed to address them.
Similarly, Ganesh Thapa, Chairperson of ‘Sunaualo Bihani,’ stated that problems in waste management have arisen due to a lack of environmental research, weak implementation, and low public awareness. He emphasized that leaders at all levels of government and society must take environmental protection seriously.
The program was attended by the Rural Municipality Chairperson, Chhabbaan Khan, Administrative Officer Parshuram Upadhyay, local representatives, social activists, journalists, and human rights defenders.
