Threat Against Journalist Over Publishing News

Journalists have protested against the death threats issued to Sonu Kumar Das,33, a journalist from Biratnagar Metropolitan City-8, over a news report.

According to the victim, Punam Kumari Shah threatened to kill him over the phone after Live News Raftaar broadcast a report exposing a fraud case involving the creation of fake court documents to deceive the public. The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Morang, issued a statement on October 30, condemning the incident of threat against the journalist and his family over the news coverage. The statement issued by Netra Prasad Adhikari, Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Morang, urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, take action against the perpetrator, and ensure the safety and security of the journalist.

The 1998 Declaration on Human Rights Defenders defines journalists as human rights defenders.
