Binod Kumar Nisad, 40, from Ramnagar Gram Panchayat, Siddharthnagar, India, committed suicide in the police custody of the District Police Office, Kapilvastu in the morning of November 19 by hanging himself. According to SP Santosh Acharya of the District Police Office, Binod Kumar Nisad was arrested on October 31, 2025, in Kapilvastu with 80 grams of brown sugar and a case was filed against him for drug trafficking.
CCTV footage from the police office showed that the deceased Nisad was seen going to the toilet at 3:48 a.m. on November 19 while in police custody. He reportedly tore the net of the toilet window and used a torn portion of a blanket to hang himself. Another detainee, who was in the toilet at the time, saw him hanging and immediately informed the police about the incident.
Following the incident, the police informed local representatives, human rights activists, journalists, and the deceased’s relatives, and recorded statements from all before sending the body to Kapilvastu Hospital in Taulihawa for post-mortem examination. SP Acharya stated that the deceased, Binod Kumar Nisad, was also an absconding accused facing several cases in India. The body is currently at Kapilvastu Hospital, Taulihawa.
