During the Gen-Z protests against corruption, disorder, and the shutdown of social media on September 8 and 9, 2025, an inmate named Gambhir Bahadur Danuwar, 35 of Shahikhola Rajabas, Triyuga Municipality–8, who had escaped from the Regional Jail Jhumka, Ramdhuni Municipality–5, Sunsari, was found dead on October 7, 2025.
According to DSP Kedarman Dong of the District Police Office, Sunsari, Danuwar, who had been serving a jail sentence for killing, was found hanging from a sissoo tree near his home on October 7.
Following the District Court Sunsari’s verdict on March 26, 2021, sentencing him to life imprisonment for killing, Danuwar had been serving his term at Jhumka Jail. He escaped on September 9, 2025 during the Gen-Z movement and fled to his home in Shahikhola Rajabas, Triyuga Municipality–8.
The post-mortem examination of the body was conducted on October 7 at the District Hospital. The same day, the victim’s family received the body and performed the final rites.
Police have stated that an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
