A complaint was filed by Abushek Paswan, 19, of Lahan Municipality-24, at the Siraha District Police Office on June 5, 2026, alleging that he was tortured by police while in custody at the Area Police Office, Lahan.
Paswan alleged that police brought him to the Area Police Office, Lahan, on June 4, stating that he needed to be questioned, and subjected him to physical assault and mental torture.
According to the victim, police accused him of being involved in a case in which a local youth had eloped with a minor girl and repeatedly asked, “Where has your friend hidden the girl?” He stated that he was beaten throughout the night with a plastic pipe.
As a result of the beating, he sustained injuries to both legs and hands. Police, however, claimed that they had only conducted routine questioning of the youth.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramesh Bahadur Pal of the Siraha District Police Office said that Paswan was questioned and released into the custody of his family the following day.
