The family of a four-year-old boy studying in LKG at Lungrupa Academy Boarding School in Phidim Municipality–14 has alleged that the child was beaten at school for being unable to write properly.
The victim’s mother, Savitra Nembang, said that teacher Sumitra Nembang beat her son on May 13, accusing him of not being able to write “one, two” and the Nepali letters “ka, kha.”
The child, who reportedly fell ill after the assault, was admitted to Ganeshman Singh Community Hospital in Phidim on May 15. After he was admitted, the police collected details of the incident from the hospital.
According to the child’s mother, the boy developed a fever and lost interest in food. When asked, he said that his teacher had beaten him. She said that after removing his clothes, bruises were found all over his body.
Ward Chairperson Rajkumar Nembang of Phidim Municipality–14 said that he informed the child’s father and the police about the incident over the phone.
School operator Sanyog Saru Magar said that the teacher accused of beating the child has been suspended and that the school administration has agreed to bear the child’s treatment expenses after discussions with the parents.
