Accused Arrested in Beating Case

Police arrested Pal Rai, 21, on February 20, on charges of assaulting Parbati Rai, a member of the CPN-UML Koshi Province Committee.

According to the victim’s side, the incident occurred during a dispute over political matters in Lokhim, Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality–9, where the accused allegedly beat her.

Police stated that the accused was taken into custody immediately after the incident for investigation.

Parbati Rai sustained a head injury in the assault and received primary treatment at the health post in Lokhim. She was discharged after treatment on February 20.

Bhupalsingh Rai, Chairperson of the CPN-UML Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality Committee, alleged that Parbati Rai was attacked by cadres affiliated with the Communist Party of Nepal during a discussion on electoral agendas.

However, Ramkiran Rai from the accused’s side has denied the allegation of beating.

Although both sides have made their respective claims, the incident has yet to be independently verified.

Police have called both parties to the District Police Office on February 21 for further discussion.
