Positive Changes Made For Women but Not Enough: INSEC

Informal Sector Servie Center (INSEC) has published a study report of the violence on women and children claiming positive changes being made but is not enough and has also suggested on making effective implementation of law.

The report was published on March 8. On the occasion of 110th International Women’s Day, this year Nepal also celebrated the day with slogan of ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women Rights.’ INSEC has been monitoring human rights and human rights violation. The report has mentioned an increase on the women and child rights violation in 2019.

There were 3364 documented cases of violence against women in 2019. The report was made in reference to the data mentioned in Human Rights Year Book 2020, informed INSEC. In 218 there were 2,824 victims recorded.

‘This year, there were 69 cases of attempted trafficking, 2079 cases of domestic violence, 42 allegations of witchcraft, 530 cases of rapes, 143 of attempted rape, 63 cases of sexual abuse and 51 cases of trafficking. Similarly, there were 129 cases of deaths at the hands of family members, 13 deaths for dowry’- mentioned in the report.

Similarly, there were 1447 violations of Child Rights in 2019 in INSEC’s records.

‘Most cases of child marriage are still not reported to police. Also most cases of corporal punishment were reconciled’- mentioned in the report. In 2018, there were 818 victims of rape of minor and 226 victims attempt of rape. In 2019, there were 884 victims of rape of minor and 365 victims of sexual abuse.
