Aathrai Triveni Rural Municipality has honoured 11 couples with cash and certificates, stating that inter-caste marriage promotes social harmony, equality, and helps end caste-based discrimination.
Under a Dalit awareness programme, the couples who entered into inter-caste marriages were honoured with cash of Rs. 3,000 each along with certificates, according to the municipality.
The programme held on June 17 honoured couples who, according to the municipality, have contributed to spreading a positive message in society through inter-caste marriage, said Aathrai Rural Municipality Chairperson Deependra Pomu.
Dalit rights activist Ganesh Karki Doli said that each couple was awarded cash and certificates under the municipality’s approved programme for the current fiscal year.
The honoured couples include Kavita Bayalkoti and Mausam Limbu of Ward No. 1; Home Bahadur Darnal and Srijana Rai, and Ramesh Ghimire and Sarita Nalbo of Ward No. 2; Suman Baraily and Sangita Limbu, and Hemkumar Thapa and Asmita Darnal.
Similarly, from Ward No. 4, Sabin Bardeva and Sangita Shrestha, and Bir Kumar Karki, Doli and Srijana Tamang were honoured. From Ward No. 5, Dhan Nath Nepali and Sanghi Sherpa, Aitbir and Asmita Baraili, Krishna BK and Kamala Limbu, and Salbahadur Nepali and Gangadevi Sherpa were also honoured.
Chairperson Deependra Pomu stated that inter-caste marriage contributes significantly to building social unity, tolerance, and an inclusive society.
He further added that the municipality will continue such awareness and incentive programmes in the future to reduce caste-based discrimination and promote social transformation.
