Nine detainees, including a minor, who had escaped from the detention cell of the District Police Office, Dhanusha, were sentenced to one year of imprisonment by the Dhanusha District Court on June 12, 2026.
The bench of Judge Subhash Babu Puri delivered the verdict, concluding that the charges filed in connection with the inmates’ escape had been proven. Court Registrar Deepak Pokharel stated that the decision was issued accordingly.
The convicted individuals included Amit Kumar Jha, 25, of Rupaitha, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City–20; Bishal Mukhiya, 17, of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City–4; Ranjit Mandal, 26, of Dhanauji Rural Municipality–7; Roshan Kumar Mandal, 33, of Siraha Municipality–13, Siraha District; and Abhashkar Kumar Yadav, 23, of Aurahi Rural Municipality–2, all of whom were being held in connection with drug-related cases. Also convicted were Sumit Mestar, 18, of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City–1; Bikky Karki, 22, of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City–4; and Manish Mandal, 18, of Nagarain Municipality–2, who were accused in a public disorder case.
The detainees had escaped on the night of September 22, 2024 by breaking the ventilation opening of the toilet located inside the detention cell of the police office. Police had rearrested all of the detainees by September 24, 2024.
