As temperatures have started rising excessively, local governments in Kanchanpur have begun declaring school holidays. Considering the health condition of students, some local units have decided to grant school holidays, which will be deducted from the regular summer vacation.
Bhimdatta Municipality has declared a holiday for all institutional and community schools within the municipality from May 25-27, 2026. According to the Chief of the Education Section of the municipality, Haridatta Joshi, the decision was made due to the possibility of adverse health effects on students caused by extreme heat. He further stated that this holiday will be adjusted against the summer vacation.
Similarly, Krishnapur Municipality has also announced a three-day holiday for all schools within the municipal area, effective from May 24. Mayor Hemraj Ojha said that the decision was taken prioritizing student health and safety after teaching and learning activities began to be affected due to extreme heat.
Teachers have reported that children are experiencing problems such as headaches, falling asleep in classrooms, and difficulty concentrating on studies due to the heat. “Many school classrooms do not have fans, and even the few that exist are broken, making it difficult to conduct classes. It is unbearable to sit in tin-roofed classrooms,” complained one teacher. Currently, temperatures in Kanchanpur and Kailali districts have started exceeding 40 degrees Celsius during the daytime.
